Employers Code of Practice
Employers must read and agree to this Code of Practice before advertising vacancies with Careers and Business Relations, Regent’s University London.
We will assist employers in recruiting suitable Regent’s University London student and alumni employees. You can post your opportunity out to our students for free through our Vacancies Board, alongside that we can provide a personalised matching service using our student facing Careers & Placements Advisors and Career Coaches to match any students or recent graduates who particularly suit the role. Regent’s students and alumni possess, amongst other attributes, high levels of motivation, wide-ranging international work experience and languages.
Once received and accepted, opportunities submitted online will be actioned within 1 working day.
The employer must make clear the nature of the opportunity offered and specify any necessary skills required, the remuneration and any other terms. The employer should also state the number of working hours and if applicable, the expected length of the engagement.
As the employer, it is your responsibility to let candidates know the result of their applications as soon as possible or, state that only successful candidates will be contacted. Please also inform Careers & Business Relations when the post has been filled.
Careers & Business Relations, Regent’s University London, reserves the right not to advertise vacancies it considers unsuitable or exploitative, and to refuse to advertise further vacancies from any company which breaches this code.
The employer should be aware of students’ study and visa obligations.
It is the duty of the employer to meet all the statutory legal requirements with regards to students employed via Careers & Business Relations. In particular, the employer is reminded of the following requirements:
- Unpaid internships should clearly state learning outcomes and must cover travel and or lunch expenses.
- For voluntary work, you will need to provide us with your registered charity number.
- Work-shadowing opportunities cannot involve any kind of structured work or attendance requirements that could be construed as a contract.
- All work arrangements require the payment of the national minimum wage, with the only exception being voluntary positions with registered charities.
- Payment of National Insurance contributions, tax or where appropriate, submission of Declaration of Income forms [P38(s)] to the Inland Revenue.
- Adherence to all relevant health and safety regulations, specifically the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Provision of all relevant insurances to an adequate level of cover.
- Compliance with legislation against discrimination in employment on basis of gender, ethnic origin, disability etc. and with good practice in respect of non-discrimination on the grounds of age.
It is the responsibility of the employer to assess the suitability of any candidates and to take up references as required.
