You’ve probably noticed that London has a thriving cycling scene. All sorts of cyclists, from sport cyclists to Mums, Dads and kids, use our roads for exercise and transport. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has declared his objective to improve cycling infrastructure and make London a world-class city for cyclists. There is much debate as to whether this is happening at a fast enough pace, but the fact remains that the best way to explore London is on a bike.

Nowhere is the cycling scene more vibrant than on the roads around the University which are regularly used by sports cyclists for training and by commuter cyclists getting from the northern reaches into central London. At the University, we have put in place excellent storage facilities for your bikes should you wish to cycle each day, and there's even a bike repair stand in the university car park (near the rear kitchens) should you need some tools for maintenance once you're here.

The sport cycling community is particularly worthy of mention and there are a number of clubs that use the park’s roads for training. One of the local clubs, Regent's Park Rouleurs, have 5:45 printed on their kit. This is not the price that one of the riders can be bought for, rather it's the time in the morning that their training rides start!

There are lots of different sports cycling clubs that have something for cyclists of all levels and abilities. A good place to start for anyone interested in this is CC London.

If you're looking to purchase a bike, each of the main retailers have branches near the University and spread across London (Cycle SurgeryCycle Republic and Evans Cycles). There are also a number of specialist retailers such as Brick Lane BikesCloud 9 CyclesCondor Cycles and Velorution.

Regent's Park Cyclists have a Facebook page that is a useful resource for anyone wanting more information.

Lastly, two friends of the University are Adrian Jackson and Justin McKie who both sit on the Regent's Park Safer Parks Panel and are actively involved in the Regent's Park cycling scene. You can reach them at adrianjackson@me.com and mckiejustin@gmail.com.
