Join us on Thursday 18 November in the Tuke Cinema for a free screening of Four Lions, the feature directorial debut of satirist and comedian Chris Morris.
Please note the change of time – the screening will start at 19:00.
The film will be introduced by Senior Lecturer Tristan Tull:
“Based in the Yorkshire city of Sheffield, Four Lions is a funny and tragic examination of Islamic terrorism. The protagonists are a motley mixture of the angry, mislead, vulnerable and not-all-there who believe destruction and death are the only answer in order to gain access to the ‘rubber dinghy rapids’ of paradise.
“Despite the heaviness of the subject matter the comedy lens is an appropriate prism through which to explain these characters and their motivations. Morris was very careful to poke fun at extremes rather than faith and the shock of violence depicted in the film leads us to pity rather than to detest the hapless suicide bombers.
“Four Lions is an intelligent take on our times and well worth your consideration, as well as your laughs.”
