You may have seen it on the grass in the middle of the quad – but do you know what it is?

The sculpture, part of the ‘Reconciliations’ exhibition currently in the Knapp Gallery, is entitled ‘MWRL 100mm (Multiple Water Rocket Launcher)’.

It was originally designed to water an orchard created in the grounds of a former military exercise grounds, and demonstrates how an object created for destruction and death can be transformed and redefined into a useful object for caring and cultivation.

The sculpture is the work of Mladen Miljanovic, a leading young artist from Bosnia-Herzegovina who has exhibited at the Venice Biennale.

It asks the question: how can artistic interventions reconcile opposites to practically useful ends? What do you think?
