What is this?
The University is implementing a new way of registering your attendance from the autumn term of the new academic year 2019/20. The new system will use your ID card instead of the lecturer completing an online register as they do now. This will streamline registration at the start of the lesson. The system is linked to the timetable system, which will record the time that you tapped-in to the card reader.
We are not fully launching the new system until the new academic year (October 2019). From this summer term (week commencing 29th April), we will be testing the system in about 40 classrooms.
From the week commencing 29 April, students mostly on BAM Undergraduate, BAM Foundation, Pyschotherapy, and some Liberal Arts classes will be asked to help test the new system by tapping into the card reader located inside the classroom. The purpose of the summer test period is to test the technology and to remedy any problems that may arise prior to the full-launch in October. We will be testing that the card readers work as expected and that your tap-in is time-stamped accurately against the correct timetabled session. During the summer testing period, your lecturers will continue to complete online registers as they do now.
We will be emailing students towards the end of April to confirm if your programme is part of the summer trial and provide some more details. If your programme is affected, all we ask is that you use your ID card to tap-in to the card reader which will be located next to the door as you come into the classroom. You should tap-in as you enter the classroom, up to 10 minutes before the lesson starts, and 10 minutes after the lesson is due to start.
