Each student was accompanied by a Chinese student in this programme which offered a cross-cultural learning experience and the development of strong friendship among UK-China students. The programme started with introductory classes on Chinese language and culture, as well as the traditional Chinese Paper-Cut learning and practice. Besides visiting the historical and cultural sites, such as the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, and the National Museum, students also visited the Olympic Park, Huawei Headquarter, Northern Taxi Company and Dong Taoyao Institute of Ceramic Technology. Students also experienced mobile app service for bike renting and sharing, and other WeChat communication and payment services.

Here's what some of our students had to say about the experience:

“My time in Beijing has truly been a life changing experience, one that has removed many misconceptions I previously held about China as a country and culture, and reshaped my understanding of the people, giving perspective and invaluable insight into their values, behaviour and way of life in Beijing. Throughout the programme there were many memorable activities, such as visiting the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, but personally the experience I valued most was the home visit. This was the most defining moment of my stay in Beijing as it shattered my misconception I held about Chinese culture and family.” Catriona Stobie, BA (Hons) International Business

“We covered the main aspects of Chinese culture during this trip including language, history, food, architecture, fashion and business. One of the best memorable days of this programme was the Great Wall of China. It is one of the most visited places in Beijing and I was excited to finally be able to step on it.” Fabian Cabrera, BA (Hons) Global Management

“Visit to the National Museum was worth every moment because it depicts China's history in the most creative manner. At Dong Taoyao Institute of Ceramic Technology, China's blue and white porcelain was the main magnet for me. It is the epitome of the Yuan Dynasty as told to me by the instructor. The Huawei Headquarter is an impeccable benchmark when it comes to technology, class and grandeur. I really couldn’t focus much on what was being told there by the experts because I was engrossed in the high-tech visions my eyes could not hold.”  Tanvi Jain, MA Luxury Brand Management
